Charles Edgecumbe Davenport and Emma Anne Georgiana Webber.1,2 Cyril James Humphries Davenport married Constance Georgiana M. Davenport, daughter of Major Trevor Humphreys and Frances Georgina Sewell, on 21 March 1878 in St. Stephen's, Westbourne Park, London, the service being conducted by the Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell, Rector of Headcorn, assisted by the Rev. William Charles Fynes Webber, Sub-Dean of St. Pauls.3 Cyril James Humphries Davenport died on 15 January 1941 near Taunton, Somerset, at the age of 92 from bronchitis.
His obituary in the Times reads "Major C.J.H. Davenport, V.D. formerly Superintendent of bookbinding, British Museum, died in a Somerset nursing home on the January 15 at the age of 92.
Born at Stirling on the June 5, 1848, of Cyril James H. Davenport was the eldest son of Captain C. Davenport, 1st Foot, late of Bramall Hall, Stockport, and grandson of Admiral Sir S.P. Davenport. After being educated at Charterhouse, he entered the Royal Engineer Department of the War Office as a draughtsman in 1868, but later he took up his work at the British Museum. In 1900 he was awarded the silver medal of the Society of Arts, and in 1904 he was British member of the International Jury, St Louis, United States, and received the diploma and gold medal. He had lectured at the Royal Institution and at Eton, and he was a member of many learned bodies. His books included volumes on the Crown Jewels, on bookbinding, mezztints, heraldry, and kindred subjects.
In 1878 he married Constance, daughter of Major Trevor Davenport, 1st Foot. She died in 1932. They had a daughter."4,5,1
