Colonel Charles Day Durnford was born on 27 January 1846 in Kingston, Ontario.1 He was a Assistant Commissary General of Ordnance.3 He was the son of Colonel John Durnford and Charlotte Sewell.2 Lt. Colonel Charles Day Durnford appeared in the 1861 census at Aldershot. He is listed as a lieutenant.4 He married Emily Roberts, daughter of Robert Rogers, on 15 February 1874 in Chester.1 In 1903 he retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. They are to be found on the passenger list of the Antillan visiting New Orleans. Two years later they are back in New Orleans on their way to visit Ocean Springs Mississippi.5 Lt. Colonel Charles Day Durnford died on 5 April 1908 in Montreal at the age of 62 s.p.1

On 28 June, 1867 he was appointed to be a Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Stores in the Military Stores Department.
(Gentleman Cadet John Fullarton Beatson q.v. appears in the same list of names in the London Gazette). John Elias Durnford died on 26 April 1867 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, at the age of 23.2

Born in 1938 in Montreal, daughter of the late A.T. Galt and Marjorie Durnford. Lucy was the granddaughter of Sir Arthur and Lady Currie and great-granddaughter of Sir Alexander Tilloch and Lady Galt. A graduate of Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Montreal, Lucy also attended the Parson's School of Art & Design, New York and the Banff School of Fine Arts. She worked as an advertising artist from 1959-1971 and was active in the Junior League of Montreal. From 1971 Lucy taught art at several Montreal pre-schools. In 1982 she moved with her husband Ralph to Vancouver where for over 25 years she was a member of many clubs, including the Garden Club of Vancouver and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens and was a docent at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Lucy is survived by her stepchildren, David (Jacqui), Toronto, Ginny (Don Clark), Halifax, Tom (Pam) Lachine, Mary (Don Kennedy), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Katie Clark, Suzie (Troy) Munroe, Laura Clark, James, Colin, Geoff and David Lewis, Elizabeth and Bill Kennedy; and her Lewis in-laws, Harvey and Kathleen of Louisbourg, N.S., and Jean of Wilmington, Del. Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Wm. Ralph Lewis and her brother, A.W. Currie Durnford. Funeral service at St. Bartholomews Anglican Church, Louisbourg on Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. Details of a memorial service to be held in Montreal will be announced later. The Cape Breton Post, 1 August 2009.1
