     Lt. Colonel Charles Day Durnford was born on 27 January 1846 in Kingston, Ontario.¹ He was a Assistant Commissary General of Ordnance.³ He was the son of Colonel John Durnford and Charlotte Sewell.² Lt. Colonel Charles Day Durnford appeared in the 1861 census at Aldershot. He is listed as a lieutenant.⁴ He married Emily Roberts, daughter of Robert Rogers, on 15 February 1874 in Chester.¹ In 1903 he retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. They are to be found on the passenger list of the Antillan visiting New Orleans. Two years later they are back in New Orleans on their way to visit Ocean Springs Mississippi.⁵ Lt. Colonel Charles Day Durnford died on 5 April 1908 in Montreal at the age of 62 s.p.¹

     Charlotte Durnford was born on 27 February 1818 in St. John's, Newfoundland.¹ She was the daughter of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann.¹ Charlotte Durnford died in 1855 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.¹

     Edward Comyns Durnford was also known as Angus.¹ He was born on 14 April 1844 in Kingston, Ontario.² He was the son of Major Philip Durnford and Augusta Sewell.¹ Edward Comyns Durnford died on 13 January 1927 in St. John, New Brunswick, at the age of 82 unmarried.²

     Elias de Quincy Durnford was born on 26 May 1834 in Edinburgh.¹ He was the son of Major Philip Durnford and Augusta Sewell.¹ Elias de Quincy Durnford died on 13 August 1835 in Montreal, Quebec, at the age of 1.¹

     Lt. Elias Durnford R.E. was born in 1801 in Gosport, Hampshire.¹ He was the son of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann.¹ Lt. Elias Durnford R.E. died in January 1835 "Of fever, on board ship, on his passage to Ceylon, between Muscat and Bombay after having travelled over land to Bussore."²

     Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E.. Builder of the Citadel, Quebec City. He was born on 28 July 1774 in Lowestoft, Norfolk.³ He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Engineers on 24 April 1793.⁴ He married Jane Sophia Mann, daughter of George Saintloe Mann, on 30 October 1798.³ On 10 January 1837 he removed from the Corps, on being promoted to the rank of Major-General.⁴ Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. died on 8 March 1850 in Clarence Villa, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, at the age of 75.³

     Elizabeth Durnford was born on 10 June 1805 in Clonmel, Ireland.¹ She was the daughter of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann. Elizabeth Durnford married Rev. Edmund Willoughby Sewell, son of Chief Justice Jonathan/3 Sewell and Henrietta Smith, on 24 October 1842 in Christ Church, Montreal, Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell officiated. Present included: Stephen C. Sewell, James A. Sewell, G. Durnford.^2,3,4 Elizabeth Durnford and Rev. Edmund Willoughby Sewell appear on the census of 1881 at Quebec together with their son Edmund (spelt Edmond).⁵ Elizabeth Durnford died on 16 October 1888 in Quebec, Canada, at the age of 83.^6,7 She was buried on 19 October 1888 in Quebec, cortege from 41 St. Ursule Street to Trinity Church.^6,7

     Elliott T. Alexander Durnford was born in May 1902.² He was the son of Augustus Decimus Durnford and Mary Oneida Galt.¹ Elliott T. Alexander Durnford married Amy M. MacKenzie, daughter of Hugh Blair MacKenzie.¹ Elliott T. Alexander Durnford died in 1974.¹

     Esther Gabrielle Durnford was born on 30 October 1877 in Frontenac, Ontario.² She was the daughter of George Durnford and Melanie Vardon.¹

     Evelyn St. Lo Durnford was born on 28 February 1867 in Quebec.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Durnford and Melanie Vardon.¹ Evelyn St. Lo Durnford married Andrew Guy Ross on 12 October 1895.¹ Evelyn St. Lo Durnford died in 1933.¹

     Colonel George Durnford was born on 4 June 1807 in Clonmel, Ireland.¹ He was the son of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann.² Colonel George Durnford married Henrietta Elizabeth De Courcy, daughter of Maurice De Courcy and Harriet Tupper Le Marchant, between 1861 and 1871 when George Durnford is listed as a visitor to Maurice de Courcy's house in London in the 1861 Census and 1871 when they are living with Harriet in St Peters Port.^3,4,5 Colonel George Durnford died on 21 January 1879 in Guernsey, Channel Islands, at the age of 71 s.n.p.¹

Durnford is listed as Assistant Military Storekeeper, War Department.⁶ Colonel John Durnford and Charlotte Sewellappeared in the 1871 census at Leamington, Warwickshire,, hey are in lodgings and John Durnford is listed as a retired army officer.⁷ Colonel John Durnford and Charlotte Sewell appeared in the 1881 census at Fort George Ordnance House, St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. Here he is described as "retired deputy superintendant of stores of late Military Stores Department of the Army."⁸ Colonel John Durnford died on 8 April 1891 in Hauteville, Guernsey, Channel Islands, at the age of 82.^3,9

     John Elias Durnford was born on 7 September 1843 in Toronto.² He was the son of Colonel John Durnford and Charlotte Sewell.¹ On 31 December 1859 Gentleman Cadet John Elias Durnford, from the Royal Military College, to be Ensign, without purchase 3rd Regiment of Foot (The Buffs). On 28 June, 1867 he was appointed to be a Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Stores in the Military Stores Department.
(Gentleman Cadet John Fullarton Beatson q.v. appears in the same list of names in the London Gazette). John Elias Durnford died on 26 April 1867 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, at the age of 23.²

     Louisa Durnford was the daughter of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann.¹ Louisa Durnford died in infancy.¹

     Lucy Chaworth-Musters Durnford was born in 1938 in Montreal.¹ She was the daughter of Alexander Tilloch Galt Durnford and Marjorie Chaworth-Musters Currie.² Lucy Chaworth-Musters Durnford married William Ralph Lewis.¹ Lucy Chaworth-Musters Durnford died on 24 July 2009 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.¹

It is with great sadness that the family announces that Lucy passed away peacefully on July 24, 2009, in Dartmouth, N.S.
Born in 1938 in Montreal, daughter of the late A.T. Galt and Marjorie Durnford. Lucy was the granddaughter of Sir Arthur and Lady Currie and great-granddaughter of Sir Alexander Tilloch and Lady Galt. A graduate of Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Montreal, Lucy also attended the Parson's School of Art & Design, New York and the Banff School of Fine Arts. She worked as an advertising artist from 1959-1971 and was active in the Junior League of Montreal. From 1971 Lucy taught art at several Montreal pre-schools. In 1982 she moved with her husband Ralph to Vancouver where for over 25 years she was a member of many clubs, including the Garden Club of Vancouver and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens and was a docent at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Lucy is survived by her stepchildren, David (Jacqui), Toronto, Ginny (Don Clark), Halifax, Tom (Pam) Lachine, Mary (Don Kennedy), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Katie Clark, Suzie (Troy) Munroe, Laura Clark, James, Colin, Geoff and David Lewis, Elizabeth and Bill Kennedy; and her Lewis in-laws, Harvey and Kathleen of Louisbourg, N.S., and Jean of Wilmington, Del. Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Wm. Ralph Lewis and her brother, A.W. Currie Durnford. Funeral service at St. Bartholomews Anglican Church, Louisbourg on Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. Details of a memorial service to be held in Montreal will be announced later.      Philip Durnford was born on 17 April 1836.¹ He was the son of Major Philip Durnford and Augusta Sewell.¹ Philip Durnford died on 16 July 1837 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 1.¹

     Major Philip Durnford was born on 3 February 1804 in Dungannon Fort, County Tyrone, Ireland.¹ He was the son of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann.¹ He was a of the 68th of Foot, The Durham Light Infantry. Major Philip Durnford married Augusta Sewell, daughter of Stephen Sewell K.C. and Jane Caldwell, on 3 August 1833 in Kingston Church, Portsea, England.² Major Philip Durnford died on 15 October 1881 at the age of 77.¹ He was buried in Montreal.¹

     Sarah Durnford was born on 9 January 1820 in Quebec.¹ She was the daughter of Major General Elias Walker Durnford R.E. and Jane Sophia Mann.¹ Sarah Durnford was baptised on 7 February 1820 at Quebec.² She died on 22 August 1836 in Portsea, Hampshire, at the age of 16.¹
