     Dr. Grant Powell J.P. was born on 24 May 1779 in Norwich, England, though Burke's Colonial Gentry gives a date of 8 May 1779.² He was the son of Chief Justice William Dummer Powell and Anne Murray.¹ Dr. Grant Powell J.P. was baptised on 30 May 1779 at Norwich.³ He married Elizabeth Staats Bleecker, daughter of John Rutger Bleecker and Elizabeth Staats, on 1 May 1805.³ Dr. Grant Powell J.P. was appointed in 1813, surgeon having charge of all hospital arrangements on the Niagara frontier. He first settled in Montreal and then in Toronto. He was one of the original members of the Upper Canada Medical Board, retired from practice in 1817; appointed clerk of the House of Assembly and later as Clerk of the Legislative Council.^4,2 He died on 10 June 1838 in Toronto at the age of 59 however the Toronto Patriot gives a date of 12 June 1838.^2,3

     Grant Leeming Powell was born circa April 1843.¹ He was the son of John Powell and Eleanor Drean.¹ Grant Leeming Powell died on 30 January 1849 in Niagara.

     Jeremiah Powell was born on 29 March 1784 in Boston.² He was the son of Chief Justice William Dummer Powell and Anne Murray.¹ Jeremiah Powell died in 1808 drowned at sea.^1,3 Having taken part in a farcical attempt to assist rebellion in the Spanish colony of Venezuela, lay in the notoriously fever ridden prison of Omoa, near Cartagena (Columbia), sentenced to ten year's hard labour. His father took six months leave of absence to lobby in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, London and Madrid for his son's release. Jeremiah was set free in 1807.⁴

     Mary Boyles Powell. Sheriff of Toronto.² She was born in July 1803.¹ She was the daughter of William Dummer Powell and Sarah Stevenson.¹ Mary Boyles Powell married William Botsford Jarvis, son of Stephen Jarvis and Amelia Glover, on 22 November 1828 in York at the residence of Samuel P. Jarvis.³ Mary Boyles Powell died in 1852.¹

     Mary Boyles Powell was born on 18 December 1791.² She was the daughter of Chief Justice William Dummer Powell and Anne Murray.¹ Mary Boyles Powell married Colonel Samuel Peters Jarvis, son of William Jarvis and Hannah Owen Peters, on 29 October 1818 in York, Ontario, in the evening (1 Oct. 1818 being the date of the marriage bond). The service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Strachan.³ Mary Boyles Powell died on 3 April 1884 at the age of 92.⁴

     Mary Catherine Powell was the daughter of Dr. Grant Powell J.P. and Elizabeth Staats Bleecker.¹ Mary Catherine Powell married firstly Lawrence William Mercer.¹

     Mary Sophia Powell was born on 1 January 1815.^1,2 She was the daughter of John Powell and Isabella Shaw.¹ Mary Sophia Powell married William Henry Coxwell on 23 February 1843 in Toronto Rev. H.J. Grasett officiated. They had two sons and two daughters. Mary Sophia Powell died on 20 May 1908 in Toronto at the age of 93.²
