     Helen Westerine Sewell was born on 14 June 1908 in Perth, Ontario.¹ She was the daughter of Colin James Sewell and Robina Buchan Blackburn.¹

     Henrietta Eliza Sewell was born on 14 October 1808 in Quebec City.¹ She was the daughter of Chief Justice Jonathan/3 Sewell and Henrietta Smith. Henrietta Eliza Sewell was baptised on 23 November 1808 at Quebec.¹ She married Rev. Dr. Francis James Lundy D.C.L., son of Rev. Francis Lundy M.A. and Agnes Elizabeth Rudd, on 11 May 1837 in Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec, the service being conducted by the Rev. E. W. Sewell. in the notice of marriage the groom is described as being of University College, Oxford. In the copy of the registration of the marriage he is described as Head Master of the Classical School at Quebec.^2,3,4 Henrietta Eliza Sewell died on 17 November 1847 in Dr. Melville's house, Niagra-on-the-Lake, Lincoln County, Ontario, at the age of 39 of puerperal fever.⁵ She was buried on 19 November 1847 in St. Mark's churchyard, Niagara-on-the-Lake.⁶

     Henrietta Elizabeth Story Sewell was born on 6 September 1829.¹ She was the daughter of Col. John Saint-Alban Sewell and Margaret Hobbs.² Henrietta Elizabeth Story Sewell was baptised on 25 May 1830 at Quebec.¹ A contract for the marriage of Francis Neil Primrose and Henrietta Elizabeth Story Sewell was signed on 4 June 1857 at Quebec; before Phillipe Huot, notaire.³ She married secondly George Edmund Halliday on 30 April 1867 in Bath.^4,5 She was probably the Henrietta Elizabeth Story Sewell aged 42 whose death was registered in the quarter ending October 1871 in the an unknown place registration district, aged 42 (an unknown value).⁴

     Henrietta Maria Sewell was born on 18 July 1797 in Quebec.² She was the daughter of Chief Justice Jonathan/3 Sewell and Henrietta Smith.¹ Henrietta Maria Sewell was born on 27 July 1797 in Quebec by Salter Jehosaphat Mountain.² She died on 1 August 1797 in Quebec.² She was re-interred on 26 October 1865 at Mount Hermon Cemetery, Plot 463.¹

     Henrietta Rushout Sewell was born on 28 April 1831 in Quebec City.² She was the daughter of Rev. Edmund Willoughby Sewell and Susan Stewart.¹ Henrietta Rushout Sewell was baptised on 22 June 1831 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec, by the Rev. Mountain.² She married Henry William Woodward on 22 June 1854 in Trinity Chapel, Quebec City, by the Rev. George Mackie.¹ Henrietta Rushout Sewell died on 15 December 1915 in Hamilton at the age of 84.¹ She was buried in Hamilton Cemetery, with H.W.W.¹

     Henry Arthur Sewell is recorded as Arthur Sewell in the 1911 Census.³ He was born on 19 April 1897 in Lake St. Joseph, Portneuf County, Quebec.^4,1 He was the son of Charles Albert Sewell and Eva Jane Ross.² Henry Arthur Sewell was baptised on 30 May 1897 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec.⁴ By in October 1916 he had served for three years in the 8th R.R., eleven months in the 42nd Bn. C.E.F. and four months in the 17th Bn. C.E.F. by which time he had been commissioned as a Lieutenant. He married Grace Violet Douglas, daughter of Thomas Luke Douglas, on 19 July 1921 in St. Mathew's Church, Quebec.⁵ Henry Arthur Sewell died on 27 March 1983 in St. Catherines at the age of 85.²

     Henry Charles de Quincy Sewell. Surveyor.³ He was known as Harry Sewell.¹ He was born on 17 September 1888 in Hamilton, Ontario.⁴ He was the son of Henry de Quincy Sewell and Caroline Alberta Pense.² Henry Charles de Quincy Sewell married Ida Mary Newdick, daughter of George Newdick and Jane Tooley, on 12 August 1914 in Toronto.³ Henry Charles de Quincy Sewell died in 1958 in Toronto, Ontario.¹

     Henry de Quincy Sewell was variously known as Harry de Quincy Sewell. He was born on 18 April 1848 in Hadlow, Kent, the birth being registered at Tonbridge in the June quarter 1848.¹ He was the son of Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. and Elizabeth Charlotte Monypenny. On 13 January 1880 he was elected an associate member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and his address then was given as 29 St. Mary Street, Toronto, Canada. On 9 July 1885 he passed the examination and was sworn in as a provincial land surveyor in Ontario. His address at the time was 34 Yonge Street, Toronto. Henry de Quincy Sewell married Caroline Alberta Pense, daughter of John Pense and Maria Panton, on 29 December 1886 in St. Lukes, Burlington, Ontario.² Henry de Quincy Sewell appears on the census of 1891 at Port Arthur. He died on 14 November 1933 in 53 Craighurst Ave., Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 85 he died of myocarditis causing dilation of the right heart. His death certificate wrongly gives his date of birth as 18 April 1849.³ was buried on 16 November 1933 in Mount Pleasant cemetery.³

     Henry de Quincy Sewell was born on 18 September 1845. He was baptised on 19 September 1845 at Hadlow, Kent.^2,3 He was the son of Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. and Elizabeth Charlotte Monypenny.¹ Henry de Quincy Sewell's birth was registered in the quarter ending September 1845 in the Tonbridge registration district.⁴ He died on 25 March 1846 in Hadlow Parsonage, Tunbridge, at 7:40 in the morning. The child had been blind from birth and died from some malformation or water on the brain. He was buried on 31 March 1846 in Hadlow, Kent.⁵

     Henry DeQuincy Sewell III was born in 1916.² He was the son of Henry Charles de Quincy Sewell.¹ Henry DeQuincy Sewell III died in 2003.²

     Henry Devereux Sewell was born on 6 May 1851 in Montreal.¹ He was the son of Dr. Stephen Charles Sewell MD, LRCS and Isabella Geddes.¹ Henry Devereux Sewell was baptised on 22 June 1851 at Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal.¹

     Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. was born on 21 October 1806 in Quebec City.¹ He was the son of Chief Justice Jonathan/3 Sewell and Henrietta Smith. Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. graduated on 31 May 1828 from Trinity College, Oxford, BA and MA on 9th June 1831.^2,3 Between 1844 and 1848 he was Curate at Hadlow, Kent. From 1848 to 1850 he was Chaplain to the Embassy at Constantinople then until his death, he was the Vicar of Headcorn. The Act Book of the Archbishop of Canterbury noting his permission to officiate in the Province of Canterbury records him as having been in 1843 chaplain to the Bishop of Montreal. He married firstly Elizabeth Charlotte Monypenny, daughter of Robert Monypenny and Elizabeth Dunn, on 25 October 1844 at Hadlow, Kent, the marriage was conducted by the Rev. James Isaac Monypenny, Vicar of Hadlow and first cousin of the bride.⁴ Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. and Edith Pierce Morganappear in the 1871 census, she is listed as governess to Charlotte Sewell, who was aged nineteen at the time.⁵ Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. married secondly Edith Pierce Morgan, daughter of Robert William Morgan and Jane Beale Bleaden Pierce, on 9 September 1871 in St. Andrew's Church, Watford, Hertfordshire.⁶ Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. and Edith Pierce Morgan appear in the 1881 census which also lists Charlotte, a daughter of Henry's first marriage and the five children of this marriage living in the vicarage. Additionally Mary A. Evans, aged 28, was nursery governess; Lydia Lamkin, 33, was nurse and Alice Stock, 21, was cook.⁷ Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell M.A. died on 19 March 1886 in Headcorn, Kent, at the age of 79.^8,9 On 28 March 1886 at Headcorn Church the funeral sermon of the Rev. Henry Doyle Sewell setting forth the doctrines of grace was preached by request. This was printed by Shaw & Co. of Ashford. Probate was granted on 17 May 1886 to his widow, Rev. Frederick Arthur Cecil Lillingston and Edward Newman Knocker, executors. The estate was worth £20,115/8/1.¹⁰

     Henry George Sewell was born on 25 March 1840 in Quebec.² He was the son of Sheriff William Smith Sewell and Mary Isabella Smith.¹ Henry George Sewell was baptised on 3 July 1840 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec.² He married Sophia Ellen Sexton, daughter of John Ponsonby Sexton, on 17 July 1866 in Montreal.³ Henry George Sewell died on 22 May 1881 in Montreal at the age of 41.⁴ He was buried on 24 May 1881 in Montreal.⁴

     Henry Hope Sewell was born on 21 November 1843 in Quebec.² He was the son of Dr. James Arthur Sewell and Maria Cornelia Westrene Macrae.¹ Henry Hope Sewell was baptised on 14 February 1844 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec, by E.W. Sewell.² He is also recorded as Hope Sewell.³ In 1867 he appears as paymaster in the Quebec garrison Battery of Artillery. He married Elspeth Ross, daughter of William C. Ross and Elizabeth Theresa Le Leivre, on 3 March 1868 in Valcartier, Quebec, his occupation is given as "merchant" in the record of the marriage.⁴ Henry Hope Sewell and Elspeth Ross appeared in the 1881 census at St. Louis Ward, Quebec. Henry Hope Sewell is recorded under his second name of Hope Sewell. No one else is recorded with them.⁵ Henry Hope Sewell and Elspeth Ross appear on the census of 1891 at Quebec City.⁶ Henry Hope Sewell died on 1 April 1897 in Quebec at the age of 53.⁷ He was buried on 5 April 1897 in Mount Hermon Cemetery, funeral from his residence, 23 Mount Carmel Street thence to the Cathederal.^7,1,8

     Henry Jonathan Sewell was born on 13 October 1912 in Pasadena, California.^2,3 He was the son of Herbert Grant De Quincy Sewell and Sarah Miller Knox.¹ Henry Jonathan Sewell died on 23 August 1986 probably in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 73.²

     Herbert Sewell was born in January 1900 in New Jersey.¹ He was the son of Herbert Grant De Quincy Sewell and Sarah Miller Knox.¹

     Herbert Clarence Sewell was born in January 1891 in Houghton, Michigan.^2,1 He was the son of William Edwards Sewell and Sara Collins Owens.¹ Herbert Clarence Sewell died after 13 June 1900.^2,1 He was buried in 1900 in Houghton, Michigan.¹

     Herbert de Quincy Sewell was born on 7 January 1842 in Quebec.¹ He was the son of Sheriff William Smith Sewell and Mary Isabella Smith.² Herbert de Quincy Sewell was baptised on 10 February 1842 at Holy Trinity, Quebec.¹ He died on 19 January 1874 in San Francisco, California, at the age of 32 unmarried.^3,4

     Herbert Grant De Quincy Sewell was born on 18 June 1874 in Portland, Maine.³ He was the son of Henry George Sewell and Sophia Ellen Sexton.² Herbert Grant De Quincy Sewell married Sarah Miller Knox, daughter of James Knox and Bessie Fuller, circa 1892.⁴ Herbert Grant De Quincy Sewell died on 30 January 1946 in Monterey Park, California, at the age of 71 died of a heart attack after unsuccessfully seeking medical aid.^1,5

     Herbert Joseph Sewell was born on 22 October 1860 in Houghton, Michigan.² He was the son of Frederick George Sewell and Jane Edwards.¹ Herbert Joseph Sewell married Rachel Mathews, daughter of Henry Mathieu and Anastasie Labuety, on 19 September 1898 in Newtonville, Michigan.³ Herbert Joseph Sewell died on 11 April 1903 in Houghton, Michigan, at the age of 42 buried Forest Hills Cemetery.¹

     Herbert Mathieu Sewell was born on 8 May 1902 in Portage, Houghton, Michigan.² He was the son of Herbert Joseph Sewell and Rachel Mathews.¹ Herbert Mathieu Sewell married Anna Louise Broene, daughter of Cornelius Broene and Cene Beneka, on 11 June 1928 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.¹ Herbert Mathieu Sewell and Anna Louise Broene appear on the census of 1930 at Ann Arbor, Michigan, he teaches at the university whilst she is a music teacher.³ Herbert Mathieu Sewell died on 18 October 1989 in Madison, Wisconsin, at the age of 87.¹ He was buried in Genesee.¹

     Horace Ross Sewell was born on 31 October 1848.³ He was the son of Dr. James Arthur Sewell and Maria Cornelia Westrene Macrae.¹ Horace Ross Sewell was baptised on 26 February 1849 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec, privately by E.W. Sewell.³ He was enumerated in the Census of 1881 where his occupation is given as mail officer. He appears to have had three female servants living in his household.⁴ He died on 12 August 1889 in Bay of Seven Islands [Sept-Îles], Quebec, at the age of 40.⁵ He was buried on 18 August 1889 in Quebec City, a memorial inscription has been added to his father's gravestone in Mount Hermon cemetery AA20.^5,6 For a few years up to 1889 there are reports of a Mr. Horace Sewell prospecting in the Des Plantes river, on behalf of Monteal parties.

     Isabel Grace Sewell was born on 7 January 1842 in Quebec.^3,4 She was the daughter of Sheriff William Smith Sewell and Mary Isabella Smith.¹ Isabel Grace Sewell was baptised on 10 February 1842 at Holy Trinity, Quebec.⁵ She married George Thomas Bonner, son of John Bonner and Sarah Noyes, on 25 November 1869 in All Saints Chapel of the Cathedral, Quebec, Canada, The service was conducted by the Rev. E.W. Sewell, assisted by the Rev. G.V. Houseman.^6,2 Isabel Grace Sewell and George Thomas Bonner appear on the census of 1880 at Castleton, Richmond (Staten Island), New York, he is listed as a broker. They have two live-in servants.⁷ Isabel Grace Sewell died on 22 February 1912 in 18 E. 75th Street, New York, New York, at the age of 70.⁸

     Isabella Hannah Sewell was born on 28 September 1842.¹ She was the daughter of Dr. Stephen Charles Sewell MD, LRCS and Isabella Geddes.¹ Isabella Hannah Sewell was baptised on 23 October 1842 at Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal.¹ She died on 28 January 1848 in Montreal at the age of 5.² She was buried on 31 January 1848 in Montreal.²

     James Sewell was born on 20 November 1837 in Quebec.¹ He was baptised on 20 November 1837 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec, privately by his father the Rev. E.W. Sewell.¹ He died on 20 November 1837 in Quebec.¹ He was the son of Rev. Edmund Willoughby Sewell and Susan Stewart.² James Sewell was buried on 21 November 1837 in Quebec, by the Rev. H.D. Sewell.¹

     Dr. James Arthur Sewell. Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Laval University.¹ He was born on 31 August 1810 in Quebec.² He was the son of Chief Justice Jonathan/3 Sewell and Henrietta Smith. Dr. James Arthur Sewell was baptised on 11 November 1810 at Quebec by Salter Jehosaphat Mountain.² He married Maria Cornelia Westrene Macrae, daughter of Colin Macrae and Charlotte Gertrude van den Heuvel, in 1833. Dr. James Arthur Sewell married Jane Beswick, daughter of George Beswick, on 26 November 1852 in Quebec.³ Dr. James Arthur Sewell died on 2 October 1883 at the age of 73 at his residence in St. Ursule Street in Quebec.^4,5 He was buried on 4 October 1883 in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Plot 312.^4,5 JAMES A. The death of this well-known physician of Quebec took place at his residence, St. Ursule Street, on the 2nd inst. Dr. Sewell was born in Quebec in 1810, and was a son of the late Chief Justice Sewell. After receiving his professional education in Edinburgh, where he graduated in 1833, he settled in his native town, and had there been engaged in active practice to within a few months of his death. He was one of the original members of the Faculty of Medicine of Laval University, and held the chair of Medicine, and was also Dean of the School. He was chairman of the Marine Hospital Commission, and one of the physicians to the Hotel Dieu. As a governor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, he took an active part for many years in all the affairs of the Board. At the organization of the Canada Medical Association in 1867, Dr. Sewell was President of the Quebec Medical Society, and took the chair on the first day of the meeting. Subsequently, in the year 1871, he was elected President of the Association. For many years Dr. Sewell was a constant contributor to the British-American Journal and the Canada Medical Journal, in the files of which many of his interesting cases and communications will be found. He was an ardent advocate for the use of tea as a stimulant, and as an antidote to the effects of opium and in uraemia.
Dr. Sewell was twice married, and leaves a large family. Two sons are in the profession, both graduates of Edinburgh. One, James A., practices in England ; the other, Colin C., at Quebec. He was a cousin of the late Dr. Stephen C. Sewell, Professor of Materia Medica in McGill College, and of Dr. E. C. Sewell.
Dr. Sewell will be greatly mourned and missed in Quebec, where his kindly disposition and professional skill endeared him to people of all ranks. The Montreal Medical Journal, Volume 12, p. 188

Dr. Sewell was one of the first surgeons in Quebec to use chloroform in an amputation of the legs of a French sailor in the Marine Hospital in January 1848.

     Dr. James Arthur Sewell was born on 27 August 1834 in Quebec.^3,4 He was the son of Dr. James Arthur Sewell and Maria Cornelia Westrene Macrae.¹ Dr. James Arthur Sewell was baptised on 12 October 1834 at Chapel of the Holy Trinity, Quebec, by E.W. Sewell.³ He graduated in 1856 from Edinburgh M.D. and became L.R.C.S. in the same year.⁴ He married firstly Cornelia Janetta Elizabeth Thierens, daughter of Albertus Adriaan Mennes Thierens, on 25 March 1862 in St. Thomas's Episcopal Church, Edinburgh, the service was conducted by the Rev. D.T.K. Drummond. In the notice of the marriage the groom is described as "Assistant Surgeon Bengal Army."⁵ Dr. James Arthur Sewell married secondly Elizabeth Ann Ainslie, daughter of Robert Ainslie, on 26 April 1879 in St. Thomas's English Episcopal Church, Edinburgh, In the marriage register the address of the groom is given as 119 Westbourne Terrace, Hyde Park, London and that of the bride as 8 South Castle Street, Edinburgh. Dr. James Arthur Sewell and Elizabeth Ann Ainslie appeared in the 1881 census at 41 Oxford Terrace, London,, also recorded were a cook, nurse and housemaid.⁶ Dr. James Arthur Sewell died on 2 January 1899 in Mentone, France, at the age of 64.^4,7

"Dr James Arthur Sewell died at Mentone on the 2nd. of January. He belonged to a family long settled in Canada, which produced some distinguished lawyers. His grandfather was the Honourable Jonathan Sewell, Chief Justice of Lower Canada. His father was a physician in Quebec. Dr. Sewell graduated at Edinburgh 1856, and at the same time took the diploma of the College of Surgeons of that city. He entered the service of the Honourable East India Company in 1857. During the mutiny he was amongst the slender garrison which held the Fort at Agra, the only place remaining to us in the North-West until after the capture of Delhi. Dr Sewell was present at the action with the Nemuch Brigade and other fights with the mutinous Sepoy regiments about Agra. He remained eight years in the Indian Medical Service, after which he resigned his commission and went Quebec, where he married a Canadian lady who only lived a few years after the marriage. About twenty years ago, he went to London where he set up in practice. He married for the second time Mrs Elizabeth Ainslie, daughter of the late Robert Ainslie, Esq of the Elvingston. Everything seemed to promise a prosperous career, when there appeared symptoms of phthisis. Against the attacks of this disease Dr Sewell struggled with heroic fortitude. He tried many health resorts, the South of England, Pau and the Engadine, but finally settled at his residence, Villa Blanche, Mentone, generally spending the summer months in Savoy and Switzerland. Dr Sewell was above six feet in height, a remarkably fine looking man. He was of a cheerful and lively disposition and kind and faithful friend. He had a ripe knowledge of his profession, and from his general culture and travels his conversation was most agreeable. He had much power of wit and humour, and a large fund of anecdotes. His long and often trying illness was cheered by the care and company of his wife and daughter. His only son is now in Canada." Scottish Medical and Surgical Journal, Vol. 4. 1899, pp. 165,166.

     James Caldwell Sewell was born on 1 February 1813.¹ He was the son of Stephen Sewell K.C. and Jane Caldwell.¹ James Caldwell Sewell died on 17 June 1813 in Montreal.²

     James Courtney Sewell was born on 5 September 1899 in Great Falls, Montana.¹ He was the son of Frederick Henry Sewell and Martha Mariah Hudson. On 9 December 1918 at Cascade County the Word War I Draft Registration card notes that he has lost his right arm.² James Courtney Sewell married Hildegarde Cecilia Pings, daughter of Francis Hubert Pings and Anna Margary Schwat, on 8 August 1921 in Fort Benton, Montana.³ James Courtney Sewell and Hildegarde Cecilia Pings appear on the census of 1930 James Sewall is a farmer.⁴ James Courtney Sewell died on 9 January 1990 in Cascade County, Montana, at the age of 90.^5,6

     Jane Ann Sewell was born on 23 August 1816 in Montreal.² She was the daughter of Stephen Sewell K.C. and Jane Caldwell.¹ Jane Ann Sewell was baptised on 29 September 1816 at Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal.³ She married firstly John Jamieson on 25 July 1839 at Christ's Church, Montreal, Rev. Henry D. Sewell officiated. The marriage bond dated 23 July 1839.⁴ Jane Ann Sewell married secondly Alexander Campbell, son of Lt. Col. Patrick Campbell, on 13 April 1849 at Craven Cottage, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, the service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Henderson.⁵ Jane Ann Sewell died on 3 January 1890 in Paris, France, at the age of 73.¹
